And now, Day 6.
New Year's came. Everyone was tired. I woke up with a cold which stayed with me until we were back home, but quite likely I still suffered least from sickness during the trip out of the four of us. We took breakfast and rested a bit. I read a considerable amount of Martha Quest, and took some notes (in my little chronicle-book, nothing on the Doris Lessing book). I realized (and wrote down that I realized) that the next day (January 2) would be the last whole day in Istanbul.
We went out and had some coffee just opposite
Galatasaray Lisesi. Then mom and dad and I took a bus out to a place called Sariye, pretty far away from the central parts of Istanbul where we had spent almost all of our time so far. I was ill. Mom was ill. Dad was going to be ill soon. Emelie had been ill all of the trip. We were all damn tired. Still, Emelie managed to get on with her studies and the rest of us made our trip to Sariye, which I wrote down had the following "points of interest": To try what it's like riding a bus in Istanbul; seeing some areas we hadn't seen before and a few of their sights, like some of Istanbul's huge malls, and a few small forested areas, from the bus; to get a better feeling for Istanbul's size (it's big!); to see an Istanbul that is perhaps not "more real", but different from wht you see most of as a tourist.
...the end?
...
(No.) Oh, and it might have been this night's hotel room dinner tha featured the sausages, not
that snack on the early evening of the previous day. The importance of the sausages will be made apparent in next week's episode. Or have you already guessed???
