Continued most immediately from
here.
This was the day we went to Asia for the first time in three of our lives. We took the ferry to Kadaköy, which I eventually jotted down in my little notebook was "different, cosy". I also noted that it had "few tourists" - even with the "hell, we are tourists" attitude I try to show it seems it's hard to not worry about these things. But of course we could write it off as "just an observation". I also remember thinking, and saying, that Kadaköy had similarities to Gothenburg and, of the places we'd seen so far, this would probably stand the greatest chance of feeling like "my" Istanbul if I lived here.
Some blocks near the ferry terminal is basically a huge outdoors market - mostly for food, but also other stuff such as books, toys etc. We walked around looking at this for a while, then sat down at a café. Emelie and I stayed a little longer to get some school stuff done. (University stuff, I should say, so noone's confused. We are 24 and 27, after all.) I was just starting to work on the Wikipedia text analysis which still isn't quite finished and which is te reason I at least try to write this "real quick".
Which is why I must press on: mum and dad picked us up again. I bought some old photos and we also got some bread, and then we took another ferry to
Karaköy, and that was ou visit to Asia.
Then we went to a hamam (Turkish bath), which was extremely enjoyable, quite interesting, and 500 years old. Also quite expensive, but as I almost had to fight if I wanted to pay for anything on this trip, I must confess I didn't worry about that part all that much.
And then we went to Urban, which I should write about at some point since we were there at least three times during our stay and thus practically regulars. Then we ate at Rejan, a fairly famous Russian restaurant. Which was also an interesting experience that I feel I should write about. At some point I may do that, but this is a "real quick" post and I really don't have time for even that, so for now you're missing out. Bye...
You can have this, though: A link to
a post in some fashion blog with pretty nice photos from outside the Urban Café until I get around to writing about that myself.
