Yeah, I wanted to create some sense of what he'd been upto all that time before he ran into Sam, and I imagine it is pretty heavy.

Personally I like to think Gene is offering a timey-wimey transfer and Sam subconsciously accepts, gets hit by a car and ends up in 1973 with a version of Gene Hunt who is only too happy to remind him that he 'put in for it'!

Wowwwwwwwwww Sky this worked out brilliantly. <333333333 The way you write pre!Mars Sam is just... it rings so very true. Sam goes for Ashes!Gene. And the two of them meeting like this..... It's bittersweet, but also absolutely brilliant. Altogether, I think you made this timey-wimey-AU work perfectly. And it makes complete sense for the two of them to be bonding so very quickly. :') <33333333 Their banter, even right before the smexytimes... Hnnnnggggg. ♥

And the other things you threw in - Sam having broken up with Maya and being so bitter about it, somehow it made me laugh. Same goes for Luigi's appearance! XDDD ALSO ALSO the fact that Sam wears a leather jacket in his free time, that is JUST THE BESSSTTTTTTTTT <3333333333333333

So yes, while this indeed bittersweet, especially with Gene forgetting everything when he returns to his "limbo", but then the note at the end.... I really, really liked this fic, very very much. ♥ Also, I think Rebel's explanation for the ending is totally brilliant. 8D ♥

Wooot, I'm glad it did! I don't write Sam/Maya nearly often enough, and it gave me an opportunity to have a go at Sam's self-pitying snark.

Martian holiday romance! Something I never thought I'd see but what fun it was!

Love Sam meeting Gene at a different time in Gene's life (timey wimey), that is really interesting to read and think about. And it's not the only thing... ;)

Thank you! This one came together in my head very quickly, it's always fun when a prompt suddenly opens up in new and crazy ways. :) I'm pleased the banter works, it took me a while to get all the dialogue in order because once I had the premise they started talking in my head very fast!
