Thank you! This was my first time playing with fondant. Although I knew that water softens fondant, I totally forgot that fact when I put the logos on the cupcakes. The logos were stiff little discs when I started placing them on the cupcakes, but by the time I finished and started taking pictures, they were already beginning to droop around the frosting. Oh well.
Now I know for the future -- when working with fondant, place the decorations on the cupcakes immediately before serving/photographing.
Also, dying the fondant red was a pain in the butt. It took about 1/2 tsp of red gel (and then a cup of confectioner's sugar to stiffen the fondant back up) to get an actual red color, as opposed to neon orange.
Making cupcakes every so often is a good reminder for why I could never do this professionally. When you add in the time it took me to make the frosting and caramel, it comes out to 8 hours for 21 cupcakes. If I sold them for $2.50, I'd only make $6.50/hr. Not exactly a livable wage =)
