I loooooved Tamara Drewe! Buried, less so, I have to admit. And I can't quite put my finger on why, really. It had a great ending, I'll give it that. But the sequences leading up to it felt kind of repetitive and dubious. I feel like it almost would have made a better short film than a feature.

Hey Jen! What did you think of The Switch?

I loved it! I've been meaning to circle back to your review and let you know as much, because I'm not sure I would have even watched it in the first place if not for your recommendation, and I was just so glad that I did. I found it just so sweet and charming, and so much smarter than its trailers alone would have lead me to believe.

What did you think of Tangled? What about Tree of Life?

Tangled, I loved. I kind of suspected I would, but put off watching it for ages, because I have been so supremely disappointed with Disney animated features for more than a decade now, and I really really wanted to like this one, as Rapunzel is one of my favourite fairy tales. Luckily there was no disappointment to be found! I thought it was sweet and funny and surprisingly kickass. I even liked a lot of the music.. the singing wasn't my favourite, but it wasn't bad, and the score part of it was really pretty. Definitely one to own.

Tree of Life... was less of a resounding success for me. There were parts of it that I loved. I think Malick's treatment of the human/family element was lovely, bordering on genius. With no real plot, it was full of story and life. But I found the extended sequences of lava and light and frickin' dinosaurs to be tedious and pretentious. I feel like the point of it was clear (at least as I interpreted it.. that it was to demonstrate that life goes on.. continents keep shifting.. people [and dinosaurs] ( ... )

I kind of felt the same way about Contagion as you did. It was fine, but I expected more from it. I enjoyed it well enough while I was watching it, but I'll not be buying it.

The Thing... kind of the same, really? I was expecting/hoping for more of a prequel, which is what it was billed as, but it really felt more like a super faithful remake. Again, fine, but a little unnecessary. I wish they'd been a little more adventurous with it.
