Hey, Adstringendum. I've got a question.

[Rei is sitting in a chair, in Castiel's impromptu study, with a worn book in her hands. An anthology of ghost stories. And, because of simple curiosity:]

Do you believe in ghosts?

[Scientists? What scientists? Fran is going to handle that part.]

i see dead people, studying the spirits, field trip to see the scientists, so not crazy, i want to relax dammit, shinto priestess by day, ghost stories are super lame

I guess. Believing in pieces of people isn't so hard.

Why do you think they're only pieces?

What's the point?

Life, in my world, doesn't have just a beginning and an end. It's a constant cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

I'm taking it's not the same in your world. Or, if it is, you just haven't noticed it yet.

It is.

But it's better to let them go rather than dwell on the past. ( As hard as that is. )

That's true -- but the spirits don't always have a choice whether or not they can pass on.

[Well, it seemed a bit silly to answer that question exactly, but Botan is curious... And she can't resist curiosity.]

I take it the question is for those that don't actually interact with spirits and ghosts directly... What exactly is the definition for 'ghost' in this case, if there is one?

One of my best friends in this world is a ghost.

[Rei flashes Botan a grin.]

You're exempt -- but I take it to mean as someone who has passed on in their living life and is reborn again in the next, as a spirit, without a body, but with an attachment to the world.

It is hard to prove or show to people here, though... Given Adstringendum gives or forces everyone into a corporeal state.

It actually feels a little strange, knowing that I've been in this body for as long as I have. I usually only had it as long as I had to be interacting with the living world, so it was more like it was by choice.

The shinigami are like that, too. Toushirou doesn't have a corporeal body in his world unless he's in the 'real world', or whatever you want to call it.

Well, seeing as I'm a paranormal investigator and have seen and dealt with them, yeah.

Aah, you should have hung out with the Winchesters when they were here. I'm pretty sure they do the same thing in their world -- or something close to it.

[Rei didn't really ask a lot of questions of Sam and Dean of their own world. Their world sucks. Majorly.]

What kind of ghosts have you seen, then?

I don't remember them. Where they here before I left? They sound pretty cool...

But um, I'm dealing with a case with one right now. The guy was murdered trying to get a Selkie pelt, and he just. stayed in the building he was murdered in. Its kind of scary how strong feelings can translate to power in spirits. I mean, the guy hadn't even been dead a week and he was possessing people and messing with the lights...

But I guess that's love for you.

Dean left while you were gone, I think. Sam's been gone for much longer.

[But Rei listens, for a moment or two, before looking curious.]

Emotions are strong enough to attach a ghost to a place in your world?

Fine, more or less.

John and Cas were furious with me when I got back. Big surprise.

Yeah, and happy New Year.

[SIGH.]

Has Fran compiled all of the information yet?
