Thanks, docbrite for reminding me this site existed. I too haven't done it in awhile.

I'm almost done with the States. I'd like Alaska, New Hampshire and Maine filled in. The northmidwestern states I don't really care about.

Layovers don't count (because airports are not real places), but driving does unless you just stay on the interstate and barrel through without seeing anything. That's what I think, anyway.

By my rules, I've only been to South Carolina because we got off the interstate to eat at a bad Chinese restaurant when I was FUCKING FURIOUS at Chris for somehow taking a wrong exit that added TWO MORE HOURS to our already-six-hour drive. (He also took 3 hours to drive home from Baton Rouge once, via Ponchatoula. He doesn't get lost often, but when he does, he does it CREATIVELY, dammit.) However, I drove through and saw theGiant Butt lots of times.

Your rules are my rules. Barreling through on an interstate ≠ pin-in-map. However, most states are large enough where you have to stop and try some local cuisine, so there are a few that I've barreled through, had a quick roadside meal, then moved on. Iowa, for example. And Ohio.

I have always loved the Giant Butt too! Except I thought that shows up between Athens and SC, closer to the SC border. Guess I was wrong.

It does. I saw it every time I drove back to Athens from visiting my mom when she still lived in Chapel Hill, NC.

I'm not counting driving through because we stayed on the interstate. Even though we drove to Florida from Iowa. I am counting Georgia because we had a busted something-or-other and had to spend 5 hours there.
