Smart Call Blocking: A Concept

I was noodling about, looking at the specs of new phones, when I noticed that some new models offer "call blocking," i.e. if your phone number is in the "Do Not Call" registry and idiots call anyway, you can (if you have Caller ID and your local phone company doesn't offer/charges a lot for blocking) set your phone to reject their calls ( Read more... )

Too complicated. Just get a google phone number (free) linked to your real one and give it out to the icky places and shut off the re-route if it ever becomes too much

Not a bad idea, but I get calls from railroads, museums and such to my real number (which is in the book), so giving out a Google number doesn't do much good. :)

sysadmins have a similar concept for blacklisting/blocking known malicious web sites and attackers, but there are problems
- the data MUST expire, lest an innocent person/entity get the poison address when the bad guys move on
- bad guys can spam the list and block innocent people

so there's a need for trust, confirmation & verification of the entries submitted

The *real* question is: why aren't they sued & prosecuted under the EXISTING LAWS?
