hacky hackedness

Hi all,

PSA time: it looks like Sarah's journal has been hacked, probably by the same people who did hacks on a couple other prominent blogs and communities earlier this year.  Don't click any of the links in her latest post ("New book available!"), I'll find links in a sec to explain what is going on, I just feel like this should probably go up for ( Read more... )

I sent her an @ message on Twitter because that didn't look right, and I pinged one of her friends.

Abuse is on it.

(And, Sarah, if you don't happen to have seen any message elsewhere asking you to, please do get in contact with Abuse so they can help you re-secure your journal.)

Oh my gosh, I just read copperbadge's post and read that he never got his entries back. I hope that's not what's happened here, it would be a crying shame. :(

He managed to re-upload most of them in the end, thanks to things like GoogleReader and Wayback Machine, as well as helpful commenters sending him anything he had saved; it took a while, though, and all the comments are gone. It's such a shame that this happened to Sarah as well - after Copperbadge and the Shoebox Project I was living in fear that the third in my triumvirate of wonderful writers would fall victim to the same hackers. Damn them!

I don't think that all of them would be lost in any case; I've been running around on google since you posted this checking, and it looks like at least a good portion of the posts under sarahtales would be recoverable through the cached posts here - the problem is that a) that loses most of the comments; b) I don't think you can see private or f-locked posts through this; and c) I'm not sure that the mistful posts are as easy to get back. So don't panic yet, but...hopefully she had a backup! Hackers are assholes, and that is not at all a nasty enough word for these guys.

Er, livejournal changed that last; what I meant to say is that I've been having more trouble tracking down posts from when the journal was titled mistful, than the more recent ones, I don't know if that's because of the name change or because of the relative age thereof.
