I often go to YouTube to just search for different music to listen to, and have discovered a wide range of artists and genres. If there is an artist I like the sound of I'll listen to more of them, get more recommendations of similar music, and it just continues on from there. I don't listen to the radio anymore (haven't for a long, long time) or pay much attention to the Top 40 these days. I just find things online and listen to what I think sounds good.
