I like. I kinda saw the end coming, but that just makes it more plausible for me.

Oh, I'm not saying the ending was a major surprise - the whole cell phone reception joke was the purpose of the story - but various editors thought that vampires would have figured out the cell phone reception problems ahead of time and chosen other methods.

Of course, thinking about it now, I could have had it that they were just seriously twisted and evil people and did this for the pure joy of knowing he couldn't get out of the coffin...

I really didn't think that deeply about the vampires' motivation. Mostly just the end joke.

Yep. That would do in all the best laid plans. Good for a chuckle, and the image of a fat vamppire was a fun one.

Well, I figure a diet of pure human blood will thin anybody down eventually, but I don't know why vampires would necessarily start out as thin.

I seem to recall one X-Files episode where the signal didn't work, and I automatically assumed that aliens had to be involved since they'd always but always gotten a signal before this :)
