Which got me to remembering the first - and for a long time, the only - record that I owned: "Sing With Grover." (At least, I think that was the title, or something similar - I can definitely say that the record had Grover on the cover and that Grover ( Read more... )

let's see... the first record I ever remember owning was a rather cheesy GI Joe story record.

But the first _musical_ record I remember was a bizarre song called "Yuppi Du" Although I'm pretty sure I never actually listened to the verses, just the chorus:

Yuppi du yuppi du yuppi du
Yuppi du-i-du yuppi du
Yuppi du yuppi du yuppi du
Yuppi du-i-du yuppi du

That sounds like exactly the sort of song I would have wanted to sing when I was five.

Coolness!

And you've done a rare thing. You've gotten me to play a meme without making sport of it. ;-)

First one I remember was a John Denver record, the one with Calypso on it. I remember thinking that it was the music of flying. Listening to it, I imagined the music was a sea bird, soaring over the coastline, exulting in the wind and the waves and the sun... Freedom in a song, pure pleasure distilled into sound. Growing up I realized that a lot of his music is really corny, but Calypso never lost its magic.

A lot of his stuff's very singable, although I don't have much of it around.
