I liked the ep; agree that the killing of other gods was way too easy.
Loved Sam's face when Dean launched into his "you pagan gods are dicks" speech. You could see Dean making it up as he went, too, which is a lovely way to show our old Dean is back.
Agreed. I was really grooving on the fact that the show was finally acknowledging the non-Judeo-Christian parts of the world, and then they completely undermined it.
And yeah, that was Matt "Max Headroom" Frewer playing Pestilence at the end. Quite possibly the best casting ever.....
It was frustrating, because there were so many cool and interesting things they could've done once they brought the other gods into the story -- and then they went and turned them all into standard monsters-of-the-week.
Well it could be argued that Lucifer is a god, both to those who worship him on earth and to the demons in hell. Meg's attitude certainly seems more prevalent than Crowley's anyway. No telling what that population is or how the power draw might differ since demons are themselves empowered.
It would be kind of cool though if when Lucifer was using his mojo on earth it was sucking the power straight from the demons and from hell itself. I wonder if hell could theoretically be drained completely?
Even if I'm right though. The Hindu gods should have been demonstratively tougher than the Norse and the Greeks. I wonder if they could draw power from comic book readers and Disney watchers?
I thought that Lucifer was more of a god, too, and I also think it would be cool if he were drawing his power from hell...draining it as it were. But then again it would make the Lucifer-Michael battle a bit uneven...I dunno. SPN kind of fails at the theology here.
I guess I could kinda-sorta see Lucifer as a god, since people do worship him. But I'm willing to bet there's a lot more Hindus around then Satanists.
And if he's drawing power from hell as well as from humans, then they really needed to establish that rather than leaving is us to desperately fanwank it. Something like that would change the entire power balance of heaven and hell and the apocalypse and should've been a major point in the plot arc the whole time rather than something we're making guesses about now.
Yup. Making the point that gods are weak when not on their home turf would have done a LOT to combat the fail, but overall, yeah. Annoying because the episode had lots of great points, including the great set design and an amazing Mark Pelegrino.
