I think I just scored a Racial Bingo off that paragraph alone. It would be funny if it was on the Onion. Unfortunately, not so much.
I get harassed by people... still, because my littlest son is part Mexican. It sucks and I find it difficult to deal with the close-mindedness. I see people as people and their race is nothing more than the wrapping paper around the gift - what is inside is the true treasure. Too bad others can't see this too.
This sort of behavior drives me crazy, especially because it's practiced by everybody and everybody ignores it (especially within their own communities)

Hadn't really thought about it.
I speak Spanish to N. all the time, and he answers back in Spanish, which often startles the heck out of people.
