I was in New Orleans last July for the American Ass'n of Law Librarians conference - everybody warned me about how humid it would be, but I didn't think it was that bad. Of course, the area I live in is pretty humid to start with, so maybe I was just used to it. Hope you have a good time!
Oh, I grew up in Baton Rouge, and I'm usually immune to the heat, as such. Or I used to be, anyway. Ah well, doesn't matter, really. That's just the reaction I tend to get whenever I go down there in the summer.
A week after that, the first weekend of August, is Pennsic's War Weekend
"War Weekend" is a term more typically used for the *final* weekend of Pennsic... though with everything closing up on Saturday these days, it's less appropriate. The weekend that now includes Opening Ceremonies was traditionally called "Shopping Weekend" or simply "Middle Weekend" in these parts.
I am so with you on planning ahead though -- one almost has to! (Especially this year for me, with a number of weddings in the mix.)
Gaah. I hope there aren't any weddings. The only one even possible is my cousin, and he's been quietly living in sin for a year and a half now. That'd mean a trip up to New Jersey. But they're plan-ahead-ers, so I'd probably know about it by now.
Thanks, I knew there was something funny about 'war weekend'. Fixed.
