I'm sure this has crossed your mind, but what would happen if you got a neutral second opinion? I know you've had other doctors and analysts talk to him, but at this point when it comes to dealing with the school, you might need current analysis to fight what their psychologist is saying, especially if you're getting vibes that this person is looking for ways to make reality fit in her preconceived notion.

And in related matters, it doesn't seem all that unusual (to me, at least) that the English teacher and the social studies teacher see different issues or problems -- as you say, a lot of his issues are environmental. I can see how different teachers who relate to him differently and are looking at him through the lenses of their different subject matters might have different reactions to him, and how he might react differently to their different classroom environments, the different verbiage, etc.

Anyway, good luck.

I'll address the second point, first, as it's a bit easier. I completely agree, and this is, in part, why I don't buy the Asperger's line. When we went through this five years ago with the private school, which is what caused his initial testing, the stuff I read indicated that if you have Aspergers, these issues will be present regardless of environment. However, they're not, which indicates that the environment and/or person he's interacting with is a big factor...and that points to sensory and emotional/personality issues. We already know he's got really bad sensory issues, and we also know that his personlity type is the kind that needs to feel an emotional bond with the person teaching him or he will be obstinate. So I think you're right...but that's not the way the psych read it. She basically said, his teachers think he has it, I think he has it, and mom is just being difficult ( ... )
