I'll address the second point, first, as it's a bit easier. I completely agree, and this is, in part, why I don't buy the Asperger's line. When we went through this five years ago with the private school, which is what caused his initial testing, the stuff I read indicated that if you have Aspergers, these issues will be present regardless of environment. However, they're not, which indicates that the environment and/or person he's interacting with is a big factor...and that points to sensory and emotional/personality issues. We already know he's got really bad sensory issues, and we also know that his personlity type is the kind that needs to feel an emotional bond with the person teaching him or he will be obstinate. So I think you're right...but that's not the way the psych read it. She basically said, his teachers think he has it, I think he has it, and mom is just being difficult.

As far as getting more current testing, I don't think that would do any good...and it's horribly expensive to boot. Every time we've brought the kiddo to a specialist for evaluation, we have dropped on average $1000. When we've done this, we brought him to the *best* people in the region. She has chosen to ignore the opinion of these other people who are qualified to give a medical diagnosis (which she is not), so I honestly don't think it would do any good.

On the other hand, I intend for the gifted assessment specialist to be on the phone at this next meeting. She has both the expertise and the person skills to drive things home, and then they can ask her specific questions if they need to.
