Torchwood

Thank you very much for your input on Torchwood and I'm soooooo glad I asked! After carefully reading one or two spoilers, I have concluded you are absolutely correct and I will not be watching "Children of the Earth." I'm not sure I'll ever watch it, because just reading the few spoilers I did caused me to start panicking mildly. (Yes, I'll be ( Read more... )

I don't like post-apocalyptic drama either, but I really enjoyed this miniseries. I can absolutely see why you wouldn't, though.

All your talk about Eureka encouraged me to acquire Season 1, and I've really enjoyed it. Thank you!

Everything I've heard about this miniseries makes me glad I walked away after the end of S2. There are plenty of shows out there that have screwed up in various ways, but Torchwood, wow, new levels of pain and unpleasantness.

I'm with you. Some dark is interesting and I can take a certain level of character death--and I can keep watching through a certain level of screwing up. But we've all got our own line of tolerance and Torchwood zoomed past it before they killed Ianto (I mean, wtf, Ianto!)

Yeah, after reading the spoilers myself, I'm not sure I want to watch it either. I probably will because I think Dragonhubby wants to see it, but I won't go out of my way to remind him it's on. *Sigh*

I would suggest you add Warehouse 13 to that list of Fun Train shows. It just premiered (you can catch the pilot on HULU) and it's in the same vein of shows.

I have to say I like well done dark stories but it's not all I like.

Glad you spoilered yourself.

Like I said elsewhere, my biggest issue I have with this (and I haven't watched it either) is that they've completely taken away any impact death has for me on that show. We started with five main characters and we're down to two now? Why should I care about anyone if they keep dropping like flies?

Yes, exactly. I actually thought Tosh's and Owen's deaths worked pretty well. Mind you, I cried and I'm still so sad about Tosh's death, but they worked because we didn't expect it, especially since they'd already killed Owen once.

But now, even if I bother watching again, I'm never going to care particularly about any of the characters. I'm sure it's very "bold" to do this, but it doesn't make for loyal viewers, just occasional ones.

Exactly. And it's not like they've replaced the team with people we care about. Currently it's still just Jack and Gwen - Mickey and Martha might be in the future seasons but we don't know that. I'm not too thrilled with just watching a show with two main characters and no supporting cast...

Especially as I was never the world's hugest Gwen fan.
