Howl and stuff

We watched Howl's Moving Castle last night. I love the book, but I knew the movie was very different, so that didn't bother me. However, the movie left me bored. ::shrug:: It was...there. I liked Calcifer a lot and I thought the voice choices were very good, but the only reason I cared at all about the characters was because I knew them from the ( Read more... )

Wow. We haven't read the book yet. I just showed the movie to my Girl Scout troop and they loved it. It was my daughter's favorite movie for about 3 months. The book in on the 'to read' pile. Zoe is putting off reading it, she says, "I'm afraid the book will spoil the movie for me." Perhaps it will. (But she'll still read the book, maybe in a year or so).

The book is very very different, so I think it's unlikely it would spoil the movie.

I dunno. I know a bunch of people who loved the movie, but I think at the very least you have to like anime (which I most assuredly do not).

I saw the movie first (and I love Miyazaki), then read the book. I can't remember much of the book except near the end when they're on Earth (?) in Britain (?) and it's raining and they want to get in Sophie's house(?).

Well, at least this will give you fodder when you're at a get together. "ZOMG Joanna didn't like the book!! 1!1!"

heehee!!

Hee! I'm actually not all that surprised that someone didn't like the book. Some of Diana Wynne Jones' books require a certain mood and a lot of concentration. I felt the same way about Hexwood the first time I read it.

It took me three tries to get to the end of that movie. It was just not very good, which was especially disappointing as the previous Miyazaki movie I had seen was Spirited Away, which was excellent.

I'm afraid I just can't get into anime, no matter how hard I try.
