Beautiful as always. I never really thought of how Bespin would play throughout Lando's life like this, but you make an excellent case how it could. And Mara was fantastic, too. Great introspective.

Thank you! :D I don't know if I completely sold it to myself that Lando is this angsty all the time, but it's a good excuse to vent some of my annoyance with how he's often portrayed in the EU. And I've always wanted to write he and Mara bonding.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks. :D I'm glad you mentioned about the forgiveness aspect, because the story foundered until I hit on that as something that Lando and Mara both share, to differing degrees. And forgiving yourself can be a different thing to being forgiven, which they must have encountered on their respective journeys.

Thank you for reading!

They have a lot in common. This is a lovely scene of closeness and, perhaps, closure. You outlined wonderfully the burdens of their past and present, and I loved their thoughts about Luke, Han and Leia, too. :) And the starry background: 'Belsavis, Lando thought. He’d won the stormhold eye there, years ago.'

I'm glad that a sense of closure come through. Lando and Mara both have fairly interesting journeys, character-wise and in terms of growth, but they do get overlooked sometimes next to all that the big three undergo.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Wow, this was really a wonderfully honest deconstruction of both characters and their relationship at that point in canon. I love the little subtle touches of Lando perhaps being quite a bit more perceptive and self-aware than Mara is, and the way there really is a whole lot of genuine affection between them, even though they both know by now that it will probably never be romantic. Awesome work. :D

Thank you! :D Mara's still carrying a lot of damage at this point, I think, and it's not always easy to see through that. And I do firmly believe that Lando has many hidden reserves. :p

Thanks for the feedback!

I have a soft spot for Mara/Lando - I've always thought, in some ways they were very similar and could find a common ground. I loved this.

“Hard to have redemption applied externally, with no say, for a choice that was applied externally in the first place.” Lando’s cloak billowed, dragging at his shoulders. He thought of Leia’s reddened eyes, Chewie’s vice-like grip, of always being slightly apart. He’d blown up a Death Star and led battle after battle, but nothing was ever enough to shake the clinging shadow of unreliability. He was always Lando, friendly scoundrel, the one who sold out his buddy but made good. He was volatile, slightly ridiculous, scrupulous as far as you could see him; no amount of good work could erase the damned and damning forgiveness that no one ever forgot. This is such a wonderful insight into Lando's character, and how hard it must be for him to be seen this way by the people he is closest to. We rarely get to see such introspection from Lando in the EU or fic (we barely get to see Lando at all!) and this ( ... )
