Daaaaooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

The DayFor one of the first times in known history, I had almost caught up with most of my assignments. I plugged away at them last weekend and was able to feel less stressed. The Social Construct comment is very interesting. A few teachers had asked me to explain Halloween, and I decided to go with current, as opposed to historical, practice, so I said it's just fun. It's a day when we go to parties and do silly things and have fun.

And I was right!

The idea of looking at festivals from a anthropological/sociological viewpoint isn't that strange. I was an anthro major, and took one class about theory. Sometime in the past century, there was a movement away from the let's-examine-this-strange-foreign-backwards-culture method to the hmmmm-what's-going-on-in-our-own-society idea. I find both methods equally interesting, personally.

Glad you had a good day!

I guess in a Japanese context it would be the Enkai... because their behavior is so diametrically opposite to their day-to-day behavior. Their mechanism is to go out and get hammered and be buddies with the boss even if its for one night.

The extent that Western culture does it is greater(as in scope) but the frequency of the Japanese culture is greater.... (that sentence does make sense!)

However, the Japanese also have their festivals and they do allow for the release of inhibitions too but in my estimation, it really is the enkai.

Good to hear from you. Hope to hear from you when you make it home.
