Um...don't they teach you how to spell "groceries" in college? And how come your dorm closes but Richael's doesn't? And I like Richael. I think she should break up with her girlfriend so she can go out with you. And wtf? Our dad is going down to Williamsburg?
Apparently not. Luckily you were there to teach me, and now the error has been fixed.
Richael's dorm contains a language house, and because language houses tend to have lots of international students they stay open for thanksgiving (hence my being able to stay in my own room last year). My dorm does not contain a language house.
I think she should break up with her girlfriend so she can go out with you. Except not, like AT ALL. Much as Richael is awesome, 1) she and her girlfriend are wonderful for each other and ridiculously happy together and 2) she's not my romantic type and I'm not hers.
Yeah, our dad is driving down Sunday morning and driving back up Sunday evening. Our mom had originally "planned" to but then cancelled, and he decided to do it on his own (though our mother might decide to do it after all).
Oh, and we're in the area for Thanksgiving too. If you have nothing to do on T-day itself and want to come hang around with a bunch of weirdos I know, they probably wouldn't mind. (Yeah, I know that's the sort of invitation that's so tempting you just can't turn it down! *g*) Of course, it's quite possible you have other plans, but I figured I'd mention.
Soon I will go on my anual "CHANUKA IS NOT A MAJOR JEWISH HOLIDAY DAMMIT!" rant on my lj. And it will be much fun.
I am really not all that crazy about this whole "Let's do christmas stuff over a month in advance!" thing. I didn't notice it as much until I got to college. Sleep well over break.
Huh! I never knew that. I guess it makes sense, though, when I look at it more closely--Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah (spelling?) seem to be the main ones, am I right?
And it makes sense (unfortunately) that [I hate transliterating] Chanuka [?] would have been completely overwhelmed and swallowed by the bloated sense of "holiday spirit" that is modern-day Christmas.
Rosh Hashana, Passover and Yom Kippur are the major ones (I am pretty there are other major ones that get less attention but those are the major ones that get attention). Hanuka is more of a "we beat those people that were trying to tell us what to do" holiday than a connecting with G-d holiday. Hanuka is about as major as tubishvat from what I have been lead to beleive if not less so. (I am very non-practicing so I forget things.)
