Do You Love Diners/Diner Food?

Ok I posted recently about a FOOD Network show, "Down Home with the Neely's". There's another FOOD Network show I like, which is "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". This is the one hosted by that TGIFriday's commercial guy, Guy Fieri. I love their descriptions of the food! And it's always something unique... like really amazing seafood in Omaha... I don't really know if this qualifies as a dive-- however, my favorite Chinese restaurant is a little hole in the wall in a not so pretty neighborhood in Bradenton. It is surrounded by an enormous Ford dealership and across the street from what is likely an hourly motel. :-) However, the food is AMAZING. So delicious. The people who run the place are great and I've been going there for over a decade. Love it.

That might qualify as a dive, .. if you didn't know about the amazing food, you might drive right by ... what's your top fave items from there?

Well actually- you're right. It's not necessarily the type of neighborhood where you might be inclined to stop if you didn't know it was good. Very true.

I love everything I've ever had there. Lo mein, the fried rice is excellent, the shrimp, they have an amazing chicken and vegetable dish that's awesome, cashew chicken is great, love it, love it, love it.

I'm going to stop talking about it now or I might have to go there later. :-)

Hi, welcome to my lj. We had a Windmill Diner in my small town where I grew up, but it was nothing famous ... and no buffalo burgers. Though I have eaten buffalo, and elk, and alligator. No rocky mtn oysters though, no thanks. :)

My fave cafe - Peters was taken over a few weeks back. Peter is a czech immigrant who has owned the cafe since the early sixties, he has finally retired, and sold it on.

His bacon and tomato sandwhich was the BEST hangover cure in the world. And he did The Most Amazing coffee. Better than Starbucks (and you just KNOW what that means to me...)

His little haunt will be sadly missed :(

Oh and it was on the Westgate Road in Newcastle - the beginning of the Pink District.

Aawwww, that's sad! I remove my hat to honor Peter, and all that he did for his community!

That must have been some awesome coffee. Did you ever ask him his secret?

He is a treasure, did wonders for a shabby part of town (at least it was in the sixties before the pink pound transformed it).

It sounds kind of icky, but he always used some type of dried milk with foreign writing on the side of the tin - I have no clue what it was or where it came from.

The sheer scale of the coffee was tremedous as well. plus, it didnt matter who you were, or how long you had been going to his cafe, Peter always had the same greeting - a VERY loud, "Hello, My Friend!"

Im sad that he has gone, but dont begrudge him his retirment one bit :)

LOL... fries with mozza cheese (or cheese curds) and gravy is called "Poutine" here. It's a bit like having a coronary served on a platter but OMG it's good!

G and I like the little pubs in the area here. But there is a little greasy spoon down in the market in Ottawa that all of a sudden I cant recall the name of but they serve a killer club sammie with fries. :)
