giuliani was even worse. it was like an obama roast. he just kept insulting, joking, cracking one-liners. that was all he did. no substance. at all. like i don't think he said one thing about mccain. the cameras kept cutting to the mostly white, mostly male (many in cowboy hats) delegates just laughing it up. the most annoying thing was how he told outright lies that contradict what obama has said (like that he is raising taxes for middle income people). grrrr. i felt like the republican convention was a whole lot of old school politicking - don't tell voters the facts, just instill fear and repeat the talking points to avoid getting indepth with the issues.

I'm really, really glad I didn't see Guiliani's speech. The man has become a complete and utter joke. I don't understand why anyone takes him seriously anymore.

I really think the Republicans realize they can't win on the issues at this point. Most people in this country don't want the war in Iraq to continue anymore and staying there is one of the tenants of the McCain campaign. The nomination of Palin is purely political; she galvanizes the base and has a right wing rock star personality. She'll make a terrible VP, but she'll get votes because people like her for her culture warrior persona. And that's how they hope they can win - the culture wars and the cult of personality. *sighs*

she is exactly what she posits herself to be; an ignorant soccer-mom without any desire to compromise with anyone. She reminds me of my aunt.

And i DON'T like my aunt...

Hockey mom, you mean. ;)

Seriously, she's among the last people I would want to run this country, and, if the Republicans get in office, the odds of her as Commander-in-Chief are really, really high. We've had an ignorant my-way-or-the-highway yokel in the Oval Office for 8 years already and look where it's gotten us. She's not a maverick - she's Dubya in a dress.
