Sarah Palin is an insult to my intelligence.

I just watched her speech from last night on YouTube. I'm incensed. If she gets to Washington, she will be the most divisive person there. Forget about reaching across the aisle - the Senate Democrats will be lucky if she lets them get a word in edgewise. I understand that the VP is supposed to be an attack dog during the campaign, but she said NOTHING, except to spout mean-spirited, glib, sarcastic one-liners attacking Obama. I can't believe the most prominent female politicians in this country are this woman and Hillary Clinton. Arg.

I didn't see Biden's speech last week, but I saw Obama's. And while the Senator from Illinois spoke of the future, Palin just spoke of the past. A past that has seen this country pushed to the precipice. She talked about how she's a mom. She talked about how Alaska is the greatest state in the a nation. She talked about McCain's war record.

She spoke next to nothing of the issues.

The most she spoke about anything in regards to the actual issues was to support drilling in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico for oil. Basically, putting a band-aid on a hemorrhaging wound. Or perhaps the better metaphor is using an eyedropper full of water in the attempt create a lake in the middle of the Sahara.

I used to be a McCain fan before this year. I had hoped for his nomination in 2000. Had I been 18 then, I would have voted for him, because he really did talk sense. Fiscal responsibility. Social libertarianism. Campaign finance reform. Decreasing the influence of lobbies in order to better serve the common man.

That was then. This is now.

Now, he just panders to the base. He doesn't speak for common sense. He speaks for the far right fringe. He speaks for the Hawks. And, with Sarah Palin as his running mate, he's sent a message, loud and clear, that he intends to speak for oil companies, pro-life/anti-gay Bible-thumpers, and gun-toting Orwellians.

But he doesn't speak for me.
