[Max is sitting on his bed, legs drawn up, hugging them. He tossed the Dreamberry aside and now it's recording.

[No, he's NOT crying. Shadowhunters don't cry. Especially not about a brother who left, a brother who never even talked to him. He's not crying over his skinned knees or his cracked glasses - both a consequence of the same fall out side.

[Lifts his head, swiping at his face and the tears he's not shedding, bumping the broken glasses]

I'm not.

Stubborn, I see. But there is no point in denying it.

I don't know... what you're talking about.

[Startled. Tries to swipe at his nose and face, all suave, before lifting his head. His broken glasses are almost off his nose, though, so he blinks at the blurry picture on the Dreamberry]

Yes?

[Max nodded, making a concerted effort to push his glasses on straight and sit up a little taller, though his legs are still hugged to his chest because his knees sting]

I fell on the ice.

[Oh no, certainly not crying. But you know- even the toughest of men, cry sometimes.]

Are you.. alright?

[Peeks over his knees, blinking at the blur of the Dreamberry. Tries to candidly swipe at his face]

Yes... I'm fine.

I fell. [Max decided that was OK, being a little upset because he hurt himself; just not the part about him not-crying over his brother]

[ The not crying was doing a good job at making Hina concerned, who had her face moving this way and that way around on the screen as she tries to look more to the boy on the other side. ]

What's wrong? Hello? Are you sad?

[Max lifted his head hesitantly, trying to wipe at his eyes beneath his broken glasses]

Not...really.

[ Hina stops moving around so much now that she can see him. ]

But you sound sad... [ She tilts her head. ] Why?

Because... I fell.

Max sweetie, what is wrong?

[Max lifted his head, eyes full of tears behind the broken glass. Oh, he misses his mother. This time he won't even pretend nothing is wrong]

Alec is gone. And I fell in the ice. And... it hurts.

I'm sorry, Max. Would you like to come by for tea and I'll look at your wound?
