Fire and stars.

Thus, unsurprisingly, the highlight of my camping trip was when I was sitting in front of a crackling bonfire and I could look up to a night sky full of stars. Not a sight I get to indulge in very often in the city ( Read more... )

Sounds nice. :o

Y'know, I don't think I've ever seen the sky of stars. I live in one of the worst cities on the planet for light pollution, and I don't travel much.

Now I'm all tempted to visit a beach at night. Seeing one or two in the daylight hasn't done much for me either.

It was nice, nicer than I'd expected.

Yeah, I know, I've always lived in large cities. In Toronto, I can see maybe a grand total of five stars. So seeing the entire night sky full of stars was pretty amazing.

XD Maybe you should try it! Bring something warm to throw on, but otherwise, I like it a lot better than when it's noisy and crowded in daytime.

[evil plottingness to get to a beach one of these years goes here]

Yeah, I've heard they get pretty cold at night...but I'd take that over crowded any day.

Agreed. 'sides, if you go in summer, depending on how warm it gets where you are, it's not so bad. The breeze is nice, and I was fine in a T-shirt and a light cardigan.

Thank you. It didn't capture nearly what I felt when I was there, but oh well, such are the restraints of language and memory.

Oh yes, that's right! Luckyyyy. I mean, I lived in NYC for a while, but I was younger and also, idk, NYC isn't a very good coastal city for beaches. XD But yes, I think you've got it (or as much of it as one can get in words): there's like ... an odd overwhelming feeling of just how tiny you are, but at the same time, a connection to something bigger. And then you look out to sea, and even if you can't really see it, you can hear the waves and everything is just ... zen and lovely.
