November has flown by and December is now here! With every start of the month, we release game updates, news and the monthly event. This time around we'll be doing all three in one huge post. So, buckle down and get ready for a rather large post coming your way!
• The Mandalus Move Updates
A few days ago, LiveJournal
released v99. In this release came the small bits of the latest BETA that the Mod Team gathered information about before. While they don't list it, the "Post to Journal" page has also switched to it's infinite scroll format. The Friends Page and other major changes won't be released until v100, but it's clear it's happening sooner rather than later.
Due to this, the Mod Team has decided that the game will be moving to InsaneJournal. Our window is late January 2013, so there's no need to worry about getting your stuff in order and moved over just yet. We'll post another update once we have more information in order. We've chosen to inform you now because we would prefer to have everything set up InsaneJournal before v100 hits LiveJournal. There has been much debate and talk about it, but we've decided on InsaneJournal with all of your thoughts in mind from our previous posts.
Once things are set up we will give you another update post about the move. For now, just continue on with your roleplay here!
• Mandalus Mod Applications
We've decided to extend the
Mod Applications until Friday December 7th. The following Monday we will be announcing who are new moderator is! Thank you to everyone who has applied so far.
• In-Game Updates
Starting the First of December, snow has hit Mandalus! It may cultivate in a blizzard later this month, but for now all your characters can enjoy snow throughout the city. This includes over by the Spaceport as well. Tempatures have dropped and the chill is in the air. Get ready to cuddle by the heaters or fires and warm up!
• Mandalus In-Game 411
The Mod Team has gone ahead and compiled a list of information that is available to your characters in-game about the city. We've added and expanded the city's mythology and background quite a bit since we opened, and sometimes information gets pushed to the side. Check out
Mandalus: What You Should Know for refrences on what your characters can share with others. You're also more than welcome for your characters to create an in-game version of this list!
• December Event :: The Lights of Life
The Lights of Life is a two week holiday that is celebrated by the natives of Mandalus, similar to other events the game has seen. This holiday is the Mandalus version of the winter holidays that are celebrated on Earth. Similar to Moregis' Walk, it has it's own story and messages that are in the same vein as it's Earth counterparts. This holiday is celebrated from December 9th - December 23rd. It is a holiday that is taken very seriously by the NPCs of the game.
During this two week period, ribbons and banners of silver, white and ice-blue dawn the streets, businesses and homes. A small idol of marble will appear in the religious homes. The idol is of a woman with a hood holding a candle in her hands, nestled to her bosom. Ice and light are very much the themes of this holiday, so if your character celebrates the traditions of Earth, expect strange looks from the native population!
• The Lore
The Goddess Enrilem of Mandalus lore was the Goddess of cold, ice, and snow. She ruled the last three months of the year and first three months of the year, mirroring another God named Alacritas. Enrilem was the mother of Morgeis, having fallen in love with a mortal man and bearing him a son. Once Morgeis died at the hands of the Serpent, the Goddess Messis went into a depression and ran away from the world. Crops died and refused to grow, and it seemed as if everyone would starve through the winter.
Knowing that mortals needed hope to survive, Enrilem created the festival that would be known as The Lights of Life. She came to Mandalus and gave candles, reminding humanity that winter would end and with it life of spring would return. Knowing the pain that Messis was in, Enrilem also told humanity to send small lanterns out to the ocean with a wish for Messis to return to the world to give life. Messis heard the wishes and despite the loss of her love, the following spring crops grew and the cattle were strong. Ever since, the inhabitants of Mandalus light candles to remind them that winter will end and send out lanterns in hopes of their wishes coming true.
• What to Expect
1) Citizens of Mandalus will be draping their homes in the colors of winter. Silver, white and blue ribbons, drapes and other decorations to honor the colors of the Goddess Enrilem.
2) In some windows an idol with a candle can be found, while candles and old street lanterns will line the streets in the Venetian and Old Town Districts.
3) Come December 23rd, all the NPCs will be sending small lanterns out into the ocean from the Venetian and Old Town Districts with wishes in mind.
4) Snow!
What about characters who celebrate Christmas or other winter holidays? You are more than welcome to celebrate them! The event ends before Christmas Eve, but that shouldn't stop anyone from having a little fun with gift giving!
• The Event
Like our Morgeis' Walk holiday, there are a few fun options your characters can be subjected to. As always this is entirely voluntary, but the holiday will be happening around Mandalus (as well as the weather changes). Your characters are more than welcome to be subjected by any number of the following!
• Ice Skating
There will be a giant ice skating ring erected in the Business District. Anyone is free to visit it and have some fun! There may even be a few competitions that would be hosted!
• Frosty the Snowman
You read that right. As a bit of fun, The Entity will be pranking player characters in any parks around the city. If your character goes by a snowman, or builds one, they may find it attacking them with snowballs and chasing them around! Destroying the snowman will only make it grow larger and angrier, so it might be best to just leave them be.
• Caroling Wreaths
While they aren't native to Mandalus, anyone who puts up a wreath may find themselves bursting out into any Christmas Carol! From religious or fun carols, Mandalus just might become a walking musical. It's only one song at a time... but don't be surprised if you start a musical number.
• Magic Mistletoe
The old classic. Whoever stands under the enchanted mistletoe must share a kiss with anyone. It'll be great stories for the kids!
• The Event Timeline
A quick sum up of events!
- December 9th: The start of the event. Decorations go up around the city and the more religious people of Mandalus come forward. People tend to carry candles with them.
- December 23rd: Lanterns are sent out from NPCs (and player characters!) with wishes for the coming New Year.
• Holiday Celebration Listing
If you were thinking of having your character host a holiday celebration, then we have you covered! There will be a thread below for you to list who is throwing the party, where, and what it has in mind. That way everyone knows what's being planned!
