Sherlock Mini-Con Update

Jul 31, 2012 09:19

Sadly, this is an update to let you all know that the Sherlock Screening/Mini-Con might not be able to happen after all. :( For one, after a month of sending weekly emails the theater still hasn't gotten back to me about the date and rental cost and, for another, it looks like the licensing fees will probably be prohibitively expensive ( Read more... )

kill me now, conventions, angst, announcement, why do i bother?, siiiiiiiiiiiigh!, aieeeeeee!, seattle sherlock mini-convention

If everyone is willing to chip in more money, it might still be doable. I just won't know for sure until I get more information.

Keep your fingers crossed!

True. But having a screening would be more fun. Just have to just wait and see, I guess.

Sorry to hear this, but I really appreciate all the work you've put into trying to make it happen.

It would be great to know when you know what the total cost would be, then folks could get a sense of how many people would have to chip in to make it doable. I hope we can make it work. The NYC Sherlock group might be able to tell you how much licencing would be.

THanks for trying to organize it and I'd also be up for a meetup too! It would be cool just to meet other SHerlockians :-)

The person who replied to me only gave me a vague 1K+ quote, but that's still a crapload of money. Apparently it's dependent on a lot of factors, the main one being how long it's been since the show first aired on TV. So basically sent mail to two addresses that I "think" are people that I need to talk to in order to get information so at the moment it's a waiting game.

At this point I'm estimating that each person would have to donate at least $25 to make it happen, but I honestly don't have any idea. That's a total guestimate. And we wouldn't be able to do any of the fun stuff I wanted to, like the swag bags and prizes, which I'm really disappointed about.

Trying to stay positive about this though. Just because it probably can't be what I wanted it to be doesn't mean it can't still be cool. And yeah, if the screening doesn't work, we could do some kind of meet-up instead and come up with some other fun things to do.

Thanks so much for the info! It does seems like a lot of money, but you never know. I'd be willing to pay $25+ for it so others might as well. For 3 episodes and a day of Sherlock goodness, folks would probably be okay with spending more, but again I can't speak for others, only myself.

You've been awesome trying to organize this. Thanks again for looking into all of this!!!

I think most people would be willing to spend $25. That's actually pretty cheap for what I'm proposing.

What I'm thinking about doing is setting up something sort of like a Kickstarter with things that people can get for supporting but not coming (postcards by Reapersun, a signed poster by Unicorn Empire) and then do the same with memberships, like $25 gets you into the mini-con, $30 gets you in and the postcards, $40 gets you in, postcards, and a poster, $50 gets you in, postcards, poster, and reserved seating of your choice... that sort of thing. That way people get 'rewards' for chipping in more and supporting the event.
