So this this generation of pokemon is equal parts awesome, good ideas that didn't work (usually overcomplicated) and wtfcolour. Most of the dragons are in the wtfcolour category but I'm not a huge dragons-as-a-type fan so w/e

The colours for this gen are really....muddy. I don't really know why. And so many of these pokes aren't really marketable to kids, so I don't know what that's about. There's a difference between badass and wtf.

I'm going to geek about the monkeys everywhere though :3 Except the water one. Not sure about her. The other two though akshfdkjfdslfj

I always feel like the real pokemon is UNDER the clothes. Do this pokemno insist on not goin around naked? I guess modesty is nice but what did they do before humans existed??

I guess this is meant to be more of a for grown up Gen overall so it's not an issue? They keep saying that. idk how far they can take it though, the market is still going to be 80% kids.

I like the water monkey I think. It's really different to the other two so they are gonna look good together instead of, you know, homogenous. Probably a good design choice!

Ugly dragon 3 preevos are kind of cute but the final one just ugghhh. I reckon I could draw them all in a way I'd like but I hate the sprites. :C

i agree with all of this post. i like samurotter, but his colours kind of killed it for me.

idk, all of the colours for this generation are... bad? Like, Pokabu. Black and red? Okay. The single stripe of yellow on his nose looks bad and out of place. Mijumaru has too many colours. Smugleaf is more acceptable but then gets too many main colours in final evo.

dragon 1 and 2 just have really ugly colours together. If the colours were different I still wouldn't like them, but the colours sell me on the DNWE part. dragon 1 makes me kind of nauseous with its colour scheme for some reason?

i fucking love the three headed ugly dragon's prevos though. and i like the idea of hands = heads, but it wasn't pulled off well. at all. wtf ;_; it reminds me of dragonair > dragonite. in that i will refuse it exists.

So many of these colour schemes are just really horrible. @_@ Too many colours and/or bad combinations. Come on if you would not paint your car that shit then don't subject a pokemon to it!

Dragon 1's colours are honestly barfworthy. They look like barf. Those are the colours of barf. No joke.

Dragon 2's pre evos have this emo bowlcut cute going and then bam ugly pink for no reason. >8(

MAN you have posted a lot I need to catch up. BUT THIS COMES FIRST.
I don't know what to think about this gen - I'm still too flabbergast to make up an opinion yet. Although two words do spring to mind: over-designed. I loved that pokemon designs were on the more simplist side - they kind of 'conserved lines', so to speak. This gen seems to have thrown that rule out of the window. Actually, many of them have a "Dragon Warrior Monsters" vibe going on, only there's no rainhawk, which makes it less cool.

Personally, I really like dragon no.1. I can see where you're coming from colour-wise, but the red+light green puts me in mind of a geko, so to me, it's awesome. But yeah, the others are incredibly ugly.

I AM PLEASED TO SEE ALL THE BIRDS ROCK. This is good. I especially love this dude:

Uuughhhh maybe it's just the angle and it won't be that bad. xD As for the ice cream pokemon - I kind of like that it evolves into a two scoop cone? xDDD I find that so funny for some reason. I don't mind the golem. It's nice enough. It does look like it's out of a different videogame, yeah... I want to see its face better! I think that'll be a deciding factor. :D

Dragon 1 actually has a quite nice design EXCEPT FOR THE COLOURS. I like the axe head and the vertabrae armour but egads the colours. Awful. I'm hoping its shiny colours are an improvement!

mwahahaha burn suffer with me! You too will now be afflicted with penis vision! I'm sure it's just the angle, when his snout is up he'll just look like a burgundy alligator. I kinda like the ice cream's pre-evo/basic form, but yea, the rest is meh. Then again, some of the first gen pokes would make you go WFT? if they were released now instead, so I expect there to be a couple that are really odd.
Yeah, I don't mind the golem either, although I hear it's actually meant to be a haunted suit of armor? *shrugs* whatev.

Well yeah, that's a good enough reason to not like the dragon, I suppose. I'm interested to see it's shiny colours too, now that you mention it please don't be purple. What bothers me about the other dragons is that not only are they ugly as sin, they are going to be hell to beat as well. So, crap.

Hm, well if the armour is headless it could be a durahan? That'd be neat, I guess. Hard to tell in the sprite though.

The weird fighting types are less straight up design issues for me and more CLOTHES AND PROPS AND VEINS EW. :C

The designs are getting increasingly overworked over each generation... I try to just accept that that's how it's gon' be. Now that they are limited by the gameboy pixel size and palette and sugimori isn't the only one working on these anymore I guess it is inevitable! Every gen still has some that are really nice, thankfully. :D
