... or at least they are if you eat them in the way that they are supposed to be eaten- without all the chemicals and preservatives and processing that goes on when you buy commercial condiments

I wouldn't put so much work into my kitchen if I didn't enjoy it so much. I love food preparation. (Cleaning up afterward does put a damper on my enthusiasm sometimes... but the monetary and health aspects push me to do more...) I hope my family feels lucky. ;)
