Supply and Demand

Autumn is coming. I'm one of those people who seems to be on a timer opposite that of the natural world - I start waking up when the air turns chill. My magical practice tends to kick into a higher gear along with everything else (although this past summer I was unusually active) and consequently this weekend I looked through my supply cabinet to ( Read more... )

:) Yay, I can't think of a better thing to think about while having my morning tea than magical shinies.

tell me that doesn't look like an 80s tampon commercial! Totally! Or one of those 'feminine hygiene' products ( ... )

Nor can I! Well, in my case it's evening tea but still.

I wish I'd kept that book solely for the cover.

so the symbolism behind a lot of those tools just didn't mean anything to me

That more than anything sums up whether or not a tool is gonna work for you, I feel. If you adopt a particular tradition, then over time you grow to understand symbolism or adopt it as your own, but yeah.

I can use traditional symbols, but I find magazine clippings work just as well.

Possibly better, really. Like it or not, most of us aren't raised in a pagan household - images from pop culture seem more real than archangels or deities in many cases.

Charm making is something I have never been much good at. I'd be interested to know your process for such things.

Sure thing. Hopefully anything I write will make some kind of sense. :)

Patent for putting stuff on, cauldron for burning stuff in, chalice for wine and liquids, and then I find a nice small bowl for food offerings. But I don't tend to do the last two that often at home unless I'm doing a lot of personal devotion work, the offerings tend to be done in coven settings ( ... )

Do you find that because you do work with a group, tools seem to be more natural, or make more sense?

I know I will most likely never have a harden, both because I tend to live in apartments and because I seem to have inherited my mother's knack for killing plants. So I just buy em dried already - the only thing I've dried on my own were some roses over the summer.

Oh, goodness, only six? Your restraint shocks me, seriously. My mom and I have a pathetic addiction to tarot decks. XD

Hey, how's the job hunt going anyway? I have free time again so if it's still not going well let me know and I can beef some shit up.

Coven tools, ones that stay on the communal altar when we're working work best as a point of focus for everyone else. You don't need it but when you have a lot of people doing the same thing, it's easier to project in the same place, why it still feels good for people to have their own athames in circle.

I want to start getting into herbs and such, also need to find a place to store dried ones. I guess cause I haven't started working with herbs since that I haven't jumped on the opportunity to start.

I'm still getting used to reading tarot and some decks that I have speak more to me than others (others are large and annoying to even use) so I'm still getting the hang of it.

As for the work thing, I'm freelancing at home for now and still looking so anything extra you can throw into the mix would be awesome. Thanks!

That makes perfect sense. I have not done group work in YEARS, and when I did it was never formal, so it's interesting to me to hear about coven dynamics.

I've got a cabinet for them, heh. But depending on what you use, you could always use a spice rack in the kitchen.

I had to go through my decks and get rid of ones I simply never ever use. I love different art, but there are really only certain ones I use over and over.

Awesome, will do!
