Supply and Demand

Autumn is coming. I'm one of those people who seems to be on a timer opposite that of the natural world - I start waking up when the air turns chill. My magical practice tends to kick into a higher gear along with everything else (although this past summer I was unusually active) and consequently this weekend I looked through my supply cabinet to ( Read more... )

magic, witchcraft

Patent for putting stuff on, cauldron for burning stuff in, chalice for wine and liquids, and then I find a nice small bowl for food offerings. But I don't tend to do the last two that often at home unless I'm doing a lot of personal devotion work, the offerings tend to be done in coven settings.

A massive collection of candles, a larger collection of incense (people always knew what to get a witch for her birthday, incense and candles never hurt) and there are so many sticks and cones that I have yet to even consider burning.

I do a lot of written magic, writing statements, purging brain junk onto paper and then burning, sigils, etc. because as a young witch living at home, I didn't have the space or the resources to accumulate a lot of witchy stuff (herbs, etc.) but I always had pen and paper.

I used stones more than herbs for specific purposes in spellcraft or in general, cause they're easier to store and don't go bad. Why I have yet to really get into herbs (not until I can get my own garden).

I have six tarot decks that were all given to me and I've had to ask people to stop with the gifting of tarot decks since I still have to get accustomed to a few of them plus a few other oracle decks some I bought cause the artwork is too freakin pretty (the photo work in the Fallen Angel oracle).

Do you find that because you do work with a group, tools seem to be more natural, or make more sense?

I know I will most likely never have a harden, both because I tend to live in apartments and because I seem to have inherited my mother's knack for killing plants. So I just buy em dried already - the only thing I've dried on my own were some roses over the summer.

Oh, goodness, only six? Your restraint shocks me, seriously. My mom and I have a pathetic addiction to tarot decks. XD

Hey, how's the job hunt going anyway? I have free time again so if it's still not going well let me know and I can beef some shit up.

Coven tools, ones that stay on the communal altar when we're working work best as a point of focus for everyone else. You don't need it but when you have a lot of people doing the same thing, it's easier to project in the same place, why it still feels good for people to have their own athames in circle.

I want to start getting into herbs and such, also need to find a place to store dried ones. I guess cause I haven't started working with herbs since that I haven't jumped on the opportunity to start.

I'm still getting used to reading tarot and some decks that I have speak more to me than others (others are large and annoying to even use) so I'm still getting the hang of it.

As for the work thing, I'm freelancing at home for now and still looking so anything extra you can throw into the mix would be awesome. Thanks!

That makes perfect sense. I have not done group work in YEARS, and when I did it was never formal, so it's interesting to me to hear about coven dynamics.

I've got a cabinet for them, heh. But depending on what you use, you could always use a spice rack in the kitchen.

I had to go through my decks and get rid of ones I simply never ever use. I love different art, but there are really only certain ones I use over and over.

Awesome, will do!

Since I'm not actually a member yet and only a student, the rituals I attend with everyone else are invitation only so people are able to bring their significant others if everyone's ok with it. That means that definitely not everyone is as magically skilled as others so it does give people new and old something to concentrate on. Then again, even in a closed circle, people have a hard time removing pomp and circumstance from ritual and like the feel of using tools to make the act more regal. You don't need it but it feels good.

I need to find space for herbs which is hard to do where I am since I'm surrounded by clutter and stuff and a lot of it isn't mine. I require space.

I should swap out the decks I don't use but I'm always hesitant to do so. I don't wanna give them up. :( But I should at least purge one.

Thank you!

I think a little pomp is a good thing in any public ritual. Drama unites people!

That does make it much harder, yes.

Haha, I know the feeling. There should be like, a witch-swap.

No problem, lady!
