I went to the library today to take out some books. I figured I would use these days to start reading again. I picked up some fiction books and non fiction. When I was first dating my now-husband, my dad laughed out loud when I mentioned what he did for a living and said, "I'm guessing he didn't tell you that right away."

No problem. He's involved in designing, testing and providing support for in-house actuarial software in the Retirement Systems department of a large financial services company, although he's not an actuary himself. He's been with the same company almost 25 years so he's had all sorts of roles within his department. Of course, he's just about the qualify for full retirement benefits, he's 46 and he's a middle manager. Not a pretty picture if they have layoffs.

When I told my dad, he immediately told me the joke "How do you know which actuary is the outgoing on? He's the one looking at the other guy's shoes." Like corporate re-insurance is sexy!

Giggles? Red, I was terribly disappointed that she didn't want hanky-panky in between reading chapters on commodity trading. :P
