A folk artist from northern Florida, Missionary Mary Proctor was raise by her grandmother.  They were very close until Mary's grandmother, aunt, and uncle died in a house fire in the mid-1990s, unable to get the doors open.  In response, Mary Proctor fasted, trying to find meaning to her terrible loss.  On the 13th day of her fast, Mary felt lead ( Read more... )

I love those sorts of art... the ones that are just burnt into your memory. they pop up at all sorts of moments. This was lovely to read :-)

Thank you for introducing me to a new artist! I'll be watching for an exhibit - I'd love to see her work in person. And your poem was a beautiful response, too!

You are quite welcome! She does exhibits mostly in Northern Florida and Georgia, but she also has installations by demand in other areas around the country. I was lucky that she had an exhibit in my small college in a cornfield in Indiana. I hope to see her work again some day, maybe even own a piece!
