When crushes die

Aug 20, 2007 20:33

I just watched Diary of a City Priest, a DVD I'd finally located (used, former rental copy, licensed but no case or artwork, man this thing was hard to find) after a year or so of poking around. It's hardly a blockbuster, but it was a moderately interesting look at both the day-to-day realities and the inner life of a middle-aged Catholic priest in ( Read more... )

Oh, man...

If there was ever a post just for me. Er. See, I'm trying to decide which icon to use because "unlikely crushes" pretty well defines every single actor I've been attracted to. *facepalm*

Personally, David Morse still does it for me. Well, he was hot in 16 Blocks, anyway, and that was only a year ago. I remember first noticing him in Bait -- I believe my reaction was "Guh."

The only actor I can think of that I've "put out to pasture" as it were was Sam Waterson. I decided a couple of years ago he was just too old, even for me -- the girl who letched after Tommy Lee Jones as a teenie.

Of course, I recently caught a new episode of Law & Order and my brain melted into a big, gooey puddle of Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. So, um. I was totally wrong, apparently.

Hee! I had a feeling this one would resonate with you. *g*

And yeah, I liked Morse in 16 Blocks, too. Maybe that one pic I saw of him was just a really bad angle? Taken with, like an ultra-wide-angle lens? *facepalms* I hope he's still got it, because I've always really liked him. A lot.

OMG YES to Sam Waterston. Dear lord. Absolutely. He'll still have it when he's in his nineties, I suspect.

I don't know Stephen Rea, but I like his face. It looks interesting, lived in. I suspect I'd really like his eyes if I got a good look at him, saw him in action. :-)

I don't know Stephen Rea, but I like his face.

You must have seen The Crying Game, surely?

Weirdly, no. I managed to miss it, somehow. Maybe I was having an existential crisis that year decade? *facepalms*

As a teenager I was teased for not liking New Kids on the Block or other teen idols, but lusting after Newman, Redford, McQueen and co. because they were OMG older than our parents!

Oh, my heavens, that picture of Newman and Redford as Butch and Sundance did the most amazing things to my heart and girly bits. Wow. It's been decades since I saw that movie or even thought about it, but the impact is as visceral as ever. Holy moly. I need to see that again!

McQueen never did it for me personally, though I don't dislike him. But I can see how he'd push a girl's buttons. (Or Ray Kowalski's. *g*) Yes, indeed. Non sequitur: Have you seen the pic of him with his dick in his hand? Hee!

As for that last fellow, though... ohhhh-kaaaaay. I'm not sure I quite see it, either. And those are some rather alarming ears. Golly. *peeks through fingers* What's his name?

Does that mean me naming my mice Butch and Sundance didn't let you think about the movie? Or did you just ignore that post? Or the comment to your animal picture post? (Where you maybe could be so kind and reply to my friend who thinks we might have scared you with your spam? Except if she already forgot about it again.)

Somewhere in the basement I have the German dubbed version taped on video, but I also own the DVD, which is much better, because I can listen to their original voices. :D

McQueen was my Dad's favourite. I think he is a guys guy or something. Michael Weatherly had posters of him in his room, too. I think my favourite was Newman. But I was in my very early teens. Pretty men were pretty men. ;)

That last guy's name is Günther Jauch. I am glad I didn't pick one of his late 80s/early 90s pics. ;)

I read "Butch and Sundance" and thought "oh, cute!" but it didn't make me flashback to the movie or the OMG HOTNESS of the guys themselves. I guess cute little furry animals are on a different brain-track than hot guys. Which, I suppose, is reassuring. *g*

Oh, man, I never did finish replying to comments on that post, did I? I suck. *thwaps self* I'll try to get back to it this week.

Michael Weatherly also had a boycrush on Steve McQueen? That is so freaking CUTE! *g*

Sam Waterston. 12 years on Law & Order, and I swear he's sexier than when he started. I actually have an unfinished L&O fanfic in which I wax poetic about the sexy skin texture of 60-something Jack McCoy...

Hugo Weaving. Okay, I'm totally crushing on him right now because I just saw Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. But he's so adorable, in a quirky, big-foreheady kind of way. And he makes a good bad guy, too, and he even manages to be sexy under the V mask. Maybe it's just that good acting is always sexy.

Rene Auberjonois. Without heavy makeup, he's sort of... the best of Sam Waterston and Hugo Weaving combined, come to think of it. Adorable and quirky, but with that sexy ruggedness and sharp features, too. Then there's the growly voice. I even find him sexy as Odo, under all the makeup. I think it's those "bedroom eyes" that Odo's so famous for...

Oh, and Anthony Hopkins is falling into the pudgy trap these days, but boy he had it for a long damn time...

Hell, all he has to do is TALK and he still owns me. I don't even care what he looks like. *sigh*

It's true. I think he falls into the "good acting is always sexy" category, too...

Oh, and I think I need to throw in a word for Patrick Stewart, too. 'Cause, come on. And check out that body...

Hey, David Morse. Wow, you're the only other person who I know who admits to crushing out on him *g*. I had a crush on him a very long time ago, back in his young St Elsewhere days, where he was younger and cuter, but had the giant Eighties Fluffy Hair of Doom.

My serious crush in days of yore, prefandom, was Dennis Quaid. I can see now that the crush on him was the sort of proto-CKR crush, and was for most of the same reasons. He has the same long, lean body, angular face, golden coloring, bad boy vibe and killer cocky smile.

I noticed him in The Big Easy, and it looked like his career was going to really take off, and then....he floundered. Now he's old and fleshy and making a lot of family Disney movies as the dad.

He was a babyfaced cutie on St. Elsewhere, wasn't he? *g* That's one of those shows that seriously tempts me, now that they've released the first season on DVD. Hill Street Blues, too. *wants*

I still like Morse enormously. He's tremendously talented, and even though he's often cast as a tough guy or a cop, if you look through his whole catalog of work, he's taken on every sort of role; he's got range. And that voice!. God, I wish he'd do audiobooks. *craves omg*

Quaid was really charismatic, wasn't he? I never crushed on him, but I can see how it would be easy to do. Yeah. Bummer that he's lost the hotness. *sigh*

St Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues....sounds like a job for Netflix. I live on my account. I don't watch TV other than that. Just watched St. E, Hill Street coming soon. I am kind of stuck right now on watching Quincy. I thought it would be pure novelty factor, and even though the stories are silly, I am having a fine time. it's very like Starsky and Hutch and Columbo's love child.

I have this needling impulse to write Quincy/Sam...maybe a little smarm story. This despite I have never had a crush on Jack Klugman, who has a face like a knobby Virginia Ham.

I can't find the one CKR-esque pic of Dennis Quaid I remember. And it's sort of silly to look at picture of him...he doesn't look the way I remember and I couldn't find one good pic of him. He looks dull and too pretty now after a few years of looking at CKR. When he's not looking old and like he needs a haircut.

Netflix doesn't work very well for me. I'm so far off the beaten path that mail takes too long to reach me. Most people get a Netflix shipment within a couple of days, but they usually take more like four or five or even six days to get here, depending on the weather. Economically, it ends up working out better to buy stuff and then later resell it if I decide I don't want to keep it (though I'm not very good at the letting-media-go part; need to work on that *g*).

God, I used to watch Quincy all the time. It's fun. Not great, but fun. :-)

Have you heard the Arrogant Worms song? Sam, the Guy From Quincy

I remember him best from St. Elsewhere. God, I'm old. I like that 2nd pic of him.

Yes, it's sad when actors get old (and look it). I'd love to know how Sean Connery pulls off being sexy, no matter his age! I keep coming across Brit stuff with Peter Davidson in it and think "No! That can't be the guy who played sweet, adorable Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small!"

Um, don't have time to look for pictures now, but I'll think about it while working today. Better than thinking about work! *g*

I loved St. Elsewhere. Now that they've started releasing it on DVD, I'm really tempted to buy it.

Sean Connery! Oh, yes! He's one who's never lost it. *nodnodnod*
