[RL with Peony: Drowning Sorrows]

Sep 10, 2008 03:04

The events of the recent weeks had taken their toll on everyone involved. In addition to the political issues that still needed to be straightened out (and there were many), there was also the matter of Yuan added on top of everything else, and the effects of that were on a far more personal level. Anger, of course; concern, and most importantly ( Read more... )

The bar did in fact do Peony good. Being around the people of his Empire, all of them laughing and having a good time, as well as having Aslan there with him, served to lift the frown from his lips several times. While the smile had hardly been completely genuine, it seemed less strained as the night went on, even allowing him to laugh along with the other patrons.

Yes, this was just what he had needed. The hours went by, and it grew late. Peony himself held his alcohol very well, yet even he was rather tipsy when they decided to take their leave.

After saying their goodbyes to those they had socialized with, he and his dear friend made their way back to the Palace.

As it turned out, Aslan Frings was a friendly drunk. A very friendly drunk. Hence why he had slung an arm about Peony's shoulder as they walked and was busy chattering away inanely to his old friend, who while slightly buzzed wasn't nearly as far gone as he was. This expedition had been a good idea indeed-- he was certainly feeling a great deal less stressed than he had been before they left. They would have to do this more often; it was rare that he got the chance to spend time with the Emperor of Malkuth as friends rather than as a soldier and his lord.

He should really tell Peony this. "You know, I'd like to do this again sometime," he informed the other man with a smile. "It's been far too long."

Despite being what he wouldn't quite consider to be drunk, Peony was rather enjoying seeing Aslan like this. It wasn't often that he would just talk normally, even if it was just them around. Nor would be usually talk this much. This, more than anything, put a smile on Peony's face.

After a moment of deciding it couldn't hurt, he lifted the arm against Frings' side, draping it up over his friend's shoulders. He was feeling a little lightheaded...the sooner they reached his room, the sooner they could both get off of their feet. He wasn't sure, but he figured Frings may appreciate that as well.

Head turned toward Aslan's smiling face brought and even wider smile to his own and he just had to nod his agreement. "It has been. I'd love to do this again sometime soon."

"Then it's a date?" he asked. Apparently he found his own wording to be funny, because he started laughing a few moments after he said it. He was actually rather glad that Peony had slung his arm around him as he was starting to feel a bit wobbly himself... had he really drunk that much? Or perhaps the alcohol was all hitting his system now. Either way, sitting down sounded like a good idea right about now.

He hoped that Peony wouldn't mind if he crashed in the Emperor's own private quarters instead of trying to make his way back to his own room. The prospect of walking all that way was starting to seem less and less appealing with each step. Just how many drinks had he had anyway? He couldn't even remember. The bartender had been more than happy to provide refills whenever his glass was empty...
