Oh, Donna Noble was brilliant even before she took on the Doctor's consciousness. She noticed the things the Doctor missed, patterns, paperwork, you name it!
More interesting than what he said was what he didn't. I think his feelings for Donna ran a lot stronger than what he is even admitting to now. As for Courtney's assessment of Donna by her looks, I guess to a kid she seemed old, but she wasn't really that ancient, not even middle-aged. And she was absolutely gorgeous, in my opinion. All of that wonderful ginger hair, and most guys would notice her curves. She's grown up, a mature woman.
What he did to Donna was exactly what Courtney described, though. It was totally against her will. The only thing I can really hope is that she still has her brilliance and has done something phenomenal with her lottery winnings. Knowing her, she'd set up something charitable.
She and Rory are my favourites. Donna was a brilliant and strong woman who did extraordinary things in the most normal way ever...and then she became part Doctor.
And yeah, I had her thinking Donna was older than she was because this is a teenager who looks and is young and everyone older is ancient.
Also, I think it great the Doctor picked up another teen companion. One that isn't someone trying to be older, or in their late teens. Just a normal teen who thinks she should be special and then did something to prove it. Yeah, I liked Courtney.
Yep, notice I didn't have the Doctor tell her off or pick her up on saying he mind raped her, because he has had centuries to come to terms that that is exactly what he did.
Actually, it's been a millennium for him... and he still feels guilty about it. I can't imagine him ever really getting over Donna. Keeping her picture with him, next to his hearts? That says a lot, and I could see him doing that. Even the face he chose this time around was one that Donna had seen.
I did notice he didn't call Courtney out on that; she was great in that she's young enough to call it like she sees it and is not really trying to impress the Doctor or fall in love with him. A breath of fresh air to have real youth.
I say centuries because until Trensalore, I don't think the Doctor did actually deal with any of the things to do with his past companions, except feel guilty for what he did to them all. So it falls short of a millennium, but not by much.
It's something I could see him doing, hidden and out of sight, but always there. Donna's the one he screwed over royally. Martha being close and he made up with the Ponds what he did to Amy. But yes, this is a face Donna knew, a face she saved. If not for her, the entire family she helped save would be dead.
It was great to see a young teen just doing as teens do and not give a shit about the opinions of the adults around her. And damn was I happy with the not falling in love with the Doctor (I think that goes way too far for younger viewers.)
