Wherein Mal lists and rates some of the stuff she's been reading, for those who may be interested. I'll just add to this list, from the top, when I finish something new and then put up a new post linking back to it.
I'm really glad you enjoyed Gokusen XD I also was recced it many times, and I'd put it off for so long but it really became one of my favorite mangas. It's hard for me now to read series where I genuinely like a female lead, and not just because I think I should like her because she's the heroine. Gokusen made me a little less afraid to venture out into the jousei category.
Heee heee, Gokusen is actually considered josei, which is targeted at women between 18-30 so the panty-shots/toilet humor/boobies are right out.
I liked Psyren in the beginning, but it started getting weird after a while. Like the mangaka was wandering a bit, plus it's just so massive that it's hard to catch up once you've gotten behind. I may pick it back up though.
Josei, really? From the extremely limited amount of even kissing in it, I thought it was aimed at younger audiences. Then again, it does at least mention the words assault and rape on a couple of occasions, it's not entirely innocent...either way, I certainly liked it, and I'm in the higher-aged demographic ^_^
I think the advantage I had was that I read all existing 130 chapters of Psyren in a few days. If I had to wait a month between chapters, I'd have probably lost the thread of it a long time ago, since the present/future threads get pretty tangled at times. Now that I'm waiting for chapters same as every other reader, I'll see if the interest remains.
I'd suggest Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series. I absolutely adore the characters and the stories (and the author - she has numerous books that are amazing - but Wraeththu is my fave).
Also, if you enjoy Japanese folklore type of stuff, Lian Hearn's Tales of the Otori series was amazing as well.
Can't wait till I have some time to check out some of these on your list.
Hello, I havd alrady recommended an online author before (Andrea Speed), but suddenly it occurred to me that when recommending online authors, I should not forget two of my favourites: Ann Sommerville, at her website logophilos.net, and maculategiraffe, in livejournal
