The Amazing Race, Season 9, Leg 3 (Double Leg)

Hey, did I ever tell you guys that I went to Munich, by way of England, this last December? Well, I did. Thus when they got to the part where they showed various scenes from Munich, I was all, "Hey, it's the onion church!" (Blink and you miss it when they showed it. It's the church with two towers that look like they have onions on top. Um, anyway ( Read more... )

Oh, I agree with you totally on the two lead teams. And I'll add Lake & Michelle into my "totally hate 'em" list. I actually muted my tv when E & J were at the pit stop and talking to Phil. Those guys are totally ruining the show for me, and I'm not sure if I'll continue watching or not. They are making this season even more excruciating to watch than last season's ghastly "family edition".

I really don't have anyone in the race that I'm in love with. Lori and Dave are okay, as are Fran & Barry, Joseph & Monica & Ray and Yolanda. The other two women teams leave me cold, but then I lost whatever fondness I may have been able to garner for Dani and Danielle when they flirted with the two nitwits.

So, as a relatively new watcher (this is only my third season), I've become a little disillusioned. I mean is it really that hard to cast halfway interesting people who aren't total assholes?

Well, I watch very little reality TV -- really just TAR, in fact. I am certainly enjoying this season much more than last, but I can see your point. Part of the fun of TAR is the unlikable teams, or in other words, the villains of the piece. However, if the likable teams are just meh to you, the villains or bad guys are probably not enough to hold your interest. We want to root for the hero in every story, after all, even if we secretly delight in the villain's maliciousness. No matter the story or the medium in which it is told, it's the heroes we enjoy and love the most. Right now, the likable teams are enough to keep me watching, but it may not be enough for you. I guess we have different tastes on the matter, but that's okay. *g*

Oh hey, by the way, I read a fanfic recently and thought of reccing it to you. You're a McShep shipper, right? (Is that the right term for it? McShep?) This fic has been recced up and down the SGA fandom, so you've probably already read it, but in case you haven't, I highly recommend it. It's Freedom's ... )

Well, yeah, hating the bad guys and rooting for the heroes is the best. And I lied, because this is my fourth season watching TAR so I was all over hating Jonathan & Victoria, Freddie & Kendra, and Hayden & Aaron, (although really it was more Kendra and Hayden) *g* but they were fun to hate. Eric and Jeremy are just such total pigs they're repellent to me.

I started to read Freedom when it was first posted, but I'm such a pitiful bag of schmoop, that when I realized that John was really most sincerely dead, I couldn't finish it. :)

Hah! Yes, that was a memorable season on TAR, wasn't it? There was some true villains there. These guys this season are nothing compared to Spazzpants Jonathan. I just really like Dave & Lori and am starting to enjoy Monica & Joseph, so this season's prospects are still good.

As far as the fic goes, yeah, John's dead and is only referred to indirectly if at all. The fic isn't so much McShep as it is a Rodney fic. John may not be there, and Rodney may not be on Atlantis anymore, but their presence is felt throughout the fic. A lot of people who commented on the fic said they cried, but I didn't. I don't like sad fics, and I really wouldn't call this a sad fic. Introspective, yes, but sad? No ( ... )
