Serenity had known who they were, what they were. You never leave Serenity, she’d thought. And they didn’t. Not her, and not Mal.

Beautiful point made there--I'd add Zoe to that list too, myself. I remember thinking once, "Why could be gone from Serenity and have it still be Serenity?" Or rather, who couldn't? The answer to the second question was the core of Mal, Zoe and River. If any of those three are gone, it isn't Serenity anymore.

You're right. If I'd thought about it, I would've included Zoe, too. This is what happens when you let a pairing take over your life. ;) Have to watch out for that...

You're welcome, and thank *you*. The harmonics idea was actually a holdover from my physics major days. It just seemed to fit.
