My focus has had to be on Sabre this week. Bearing in mind I am a one man band, I have to choose my times etc. I dug out, from various corners of the acreage, six fence posts and laid them in a grid. I've had to take Sabre back to the beginning where tieing is concerned. A friend leant me a tie-blocker but before I even got to that I worked for a long time with just the lead rope. Yeah, I did mention that Katana has a 'streak' which I could see from day one. Definitely a mare with opinions. And her opinions are on how much work she should do. So, Kristina thought I have a cracking good mare :). Yes, she needs work and is basically green broke, but her nice nature and steadiness are huge assets. She's what they call ranch broke. How long have I had Katana? A week or so, I guess. And everyday that mare proves what and who she is. She has issues, no doubt about that, but today proved several things. She does not panic. If eyes are the window to a soul, then I think Katana's eye says  a lot. There is a calmness there which says, I've come home. A little worry, but not too much. She isn't affectionate like Sabre, but that will come with trust,but even so, every day she settles more ( Read more... )

Of course, it would be no fun at all if Sabre and Katana didn't get along. The dh insists he didn't pay the adoption fee for me but for Sabre, and he is correct in so many ways.
