Building of Awesome Masterlist of Links

Feb 01, 2025 00:00

The Building of Awesome is a six floor apartment building. Originally it contained four apartments per floor, an even mix of one and two bedroom apartments, but due to the construction, it now has three floors of apartments, each with two bedrooms, and the fifth and sixth floors were gutted and reshaped to hold three two floor condos. The first floor is a ‘common area’ with communal kitchen, rec room, community room, meeting room, laundry room, rest rooms, and library/classrooms. It's located roughly three blocks north-east of the Baxter stop, on the border for districts four and nine.

About the Security:

The Darkness proofing is well beyond what is needed, forming armor around the home. Due to Magneto’s powers, the metal, while not true adamantium or even vibranium, it is one of the almost indestructible metal alloys. This is actually the ‘skin’ of the building, even being bonded only a few molecules thick onto every surface BUT the glass of the windows and greenhouse. The brick and plate armor over the skin is there for other reasons, namely to hide the skin of the building. It took Jubilee slipping with her powers and blowing up her condo on the subatomic level to take out the walls. Since this happened, Magneto has made a ‘third generation’ adamantium - not as strong, but easier to manipulate AND less toxic and laminated all of the glass for the windows and greenhouse on each side of a sheet of it four molecules thick. With sufficient force, it can be deformed, but it’s meant to withstand Jubilee. In addition, each level of the building can be isolated from the others, locking it down to recycle power, water, and even air so that in the event someone DOES manage to penetrate the building’s defences, it can be most soundly dealt with.

The power and water supply of the household is now independent of Siren’s Port general utilities. Unless Magneto EMP’s his own power grid, the HoA is not going to lose power. The last time someone wanted to take out his generators, Wolverine had to hack it to pieces. The water supply is closed and cannot be contaminated from outside sources. Water and air to each apartment can be locked to cycle through just that apartment (or condo) if needed. There is practice cell level sound proofing between each apartment. While you will hear your apartment mates, if you have them, it is greatly reduced beyond the standard, and you will not hear people inside the apartments. No, not even Banshee.

There are actually very few cameras - exterior doors, the elevator, the stairwell, and main entrance hallway. Most of the security around the building is used with sensors and infrared to know who is where. If you teleport in and aren’t a resident, a silent alarm will hit Mags NV. This is a sensor which picks up energy signals.

Windows on the first floor cannot be opened. Windows in the apartment can be but they will set off silent alarms if opened from the inside during the day. Windows opened from the outside (which one exception) OR after Darkness will set off a shrill alarm inside that apartment as well as page Magneto AND whoever has security watch. The one exception is Spiderman’s back bedroom in Jubilee’s condo - provided HE opens it - there is a sensor - no alarm will sound. It's possible to have alarms put on individual apartments which will alert the occupants NV if they desire. Speaking of windows, they cannot be seen into. You can be in the house and look out but you are not able to look in from the street (or inside from the porch).

Unless you have been programmed into the system by Magneto, the elevator will require a resident's presence to operate. Non residents are not allowed in the pool area unless accompanied by ALL times by the resident and there is a limit of two guests per resident. There is no way for those Mags hasn’t programmed into the system to get access to the other parts of the house.

Speaking of unauthorized access…while the entire building has void tech build into it - tech with only Magneto’s EM signature built in as an exception - there are two places with their own added, individual system. One is the front porch area and the other is the roof hatch/storage area. Magneto’s Void Tech is not like SP’s general Voids. It reduces those Void to nothing more than a normal baseline human. If you have wings/tail/extra parts/odd skin color/etc? You will look like a normal human. It’s uncomfortable, like being shocked by a faulty extension cord, leaves you feeling cold, and slightly ‘hollow’ and disoriented. Unless you step out of its sphere of influence or the machine no longer is targeting you, there isn’t a way out of it. Magneto can - and has - coded it to varies levels. Void everyone but him, Void everyone who isn’t an X-Man/Avenger/, Void everyone who isn’t a member of the household, a combination of the last two, OR to target on person or area within the house. He’s very good with this tech. And he’s only told a few about it, and he hasn’t told anyone everything about it. There are also psi and power dampers built into the classroom areas which can be turned up or down to partly null or completely null powers. A null will block the active use of a power but not a passive use (it won’t affect physical things or turn ‘off’ powers, but it will prevent them from being used, basically). At the same time, those same areas and various other spots though out the building have force-field pads which can trap a person inside a force field tube. There are six in each main hall - the corners, and two in the middle length, top of the entire porch and roof hatch area. The can be added to the apartments at the occupants request. There are several more through the first floor of the apartment and pool area and subbasements. Anyone not authorized to be in the subbasements will be Voided and Tubed as soon as they exit the elevator. There are also hidden (in the walls mostly) weapons that fire various types of metals, glass, wood, ceramic, and energy based projectiles if needed. Jubilee and Magneto had also paced various pieces of art work, vases, structures, etc which can be EASILY used as makeshift weapons. These weapons are basically a last resort.

icy_heavens was asked and consented to perform a Kyōmon spell for the HoA, putting up a glass-like barrier for them, tucked in between the building’s skin and the outer Darkness armor. Members of the house would have been briefed on not hitting it, and due to the more fragile nature of the inside of it, there are power dampers in place similar to what exist inside the Danger Room to prevent accidental breakage, although if a powerful energy based power is out of control, it can ‘trip’ the dampers like a circuit breaker and still break the barrier from the inside.

Chuck, after a fight with Lucifer, asked Magneto to cover the building in Enochian sigils to keep Lucifer out. It took them a few days to realize it also barred Gabriel, Castiel, and Anna from the building which they then fixed. There is literally not a single area of the building’s structure without it. Magneto copied the sigils onto metal plates and bonded them to the Darkness proofing, the inside of the skin of the building, wrapped the pipes leading into the building, all supports, doorways, windows, etched it into the glass planes of the greenhouse.

In the same vein makes_asteroids, frosty_mind, thelittlestbub, the-dead-pool2, all_sweetheart, azarathmetrion, nopride4parents and Old Lace, and live here. It's unlikely ALL of them will not be home at the same time (and in fact, Magneto STRONGLY discourages them from doing this). Consider them a whole OTHER security system.
