Probably time to officially list this - As it’s been mentioned in Marvel - Mutants aren’t human in the same way baseline (or flatscan if you are feeling…well, non PC) humans are. Which means characters with an enhanced sense of smell would notice he doesn’t smell human. Close but not exactly human. Also, Magneto, due to his powers, he smells like ozone. What’s ozone smell like? It’s sharp, a sort of bleach-like smell, or like lightning.
Also due to his powers, his blood is thicker - polycythemia - and more acidic than a normal human’s, with a higher mineral and copper count.
ALSO due to his powers, X-rays and UV light don’t work on him, he just shows up ‘blank’. He can mask his infrared signature as well, so he doesn’t always show up.
I don’t mean this to be an extensive list of things Magneto can do with his powers. Because…I’d forget a LOT of it if I just tried to list is all. The big things are:
Magneto can see if you are lying, but he doesn’t always use this ability. This is a physical power - the brain works differently to lie verses to tell the truth. It is not a psychic one.
Occasionally he can sense emotions or overhear thoughts, especially if he is emotionally attached to the person and the person is feeling or thinking something very strongly. This is a combination of extremely broken and "locked in" telepathic ability combined with his ability to read the brain waves of others, a combination of psychic and physical powers working together
He can use his powers to see a person as a ‘living MRI’ or a ‘functional MRI’ OR as a series of X-Rays.
Also he can see in infrared. These are physical based powers, and short of a lead suit, or magic which functions as one, he will be able to see this. If there is something blocking his sight, he is going to be able to tell.
He can block powers that involve physically touching his skin by creating a thin EM shield. This was notably used when he was dealing with Rogue, but any power were skin to skin contact is needed, he can - and probably WILL block.
He can see people’s EM signatures as well, so for an example, if he meets Batman AND Bruce Wayne a normal universe were permissions do not apply? He’s going to be aware they are the same person - but this only works IN person, and he wouldn’t ‘out’ someone. This is because a person's EM signatures are not psychic, but physical. They are determined by one's DNA and only top tier metamorphs who change their DNA such as Morph or Mystique are going to be able to mask their EM signatures from him.
Relating to the ability to see a lie - he can compel someone to tell the truth, or use their bodies to do as he wishes. Part of it is ‘controling the iron in the blood’ and the other part is controlling and manipulating the bioelectric force in a person’s body. This is a physical ability, not a psychic one. This is not mind control - this is literally hijacking the basic function of the body, using the body's bioelectricity to do what he wants.
