One minor quibble, that looks like it's a rifle -- got a rear sight to it. I'm guessing you had to put a patch around the ball, then force it down the barrel.
Rifles have the spiral grooves to make the ball spin. Muskets are smooth-bored, like shotguns. Rifles take forever to load, but are way more accurate. Muskets load quickly, but are useless beyond about 100 yards.
That piece looks like it would probably hit whatever you aimed at, out to about 150-200 yards.
[ETA] I didn't know you were interested in this stuff... We shall have to play sometime.
It was awesome (and a little nerve wracking) since I had not shot a black powder musket before. I don't think I hit anything the first time, but I did a little better each time.
Oh, and I started a fire with flint/steel and char cloth :)
