I have seen the film and own the book which I haven't started yet but I did read somewhere that they added a line at the end for Teddy that wasn't in the book. It kind of makes things a bit more ambiguous in my opinion but overall if you think the book is good then I'm eager to read it because I have watched the film twice now and it's just so hauntingly interesting!
Yes, Mystic River. It was powerful. I liked the movie as well, but Sean Penn was in it and I have a hard time watching him sometimes knowing how outspoken he is in the political world. (I figure I can say that to you knowing we believe along the same lines) It was an excellent book. Gone Baby,Gone was good as well. And, Darkness, Take my Hand was good. :)
I had seen the movie first, which completely blew me away, and when I read the book evne though I already knew the truth of the story and how it ended, I couldn't put it down. The ending still had that punch-in-the-gut feel to it.
That is exactly how I felt about the ending! After I read it, I was discussing it with a friend, and he guessed the ending from the movie preview. I was like "WHOA!"
Hi. I wandered over here after seeing your post at obsessed_reader. I adored this book and thought Mystic River was possibly even better.
Anyway, some friends and I have a book club comm, oddlittlecat, where we read a book together and post our opinions, then discuss in comments. We're just fixing to read Mystic River (second time for me, first for everyone else), as soon as we get done discussing the current book. Feel free to join up and read along if you want. It's a lot of fun.
