Yes, Mystic River. It was powerful. I liked the movie as well, but Sean Penn was in it and I have a hard time watching him sometimes knowing how outspoken he is in the political world. (I figure I can say that to you knowing we believe along the same lines) It was an excellent book. Gone Baby,Gone was good as well. And, Darkness, Take my Hand was good. :)

OOH! I will add those books to my list. I understand what you mean. I am like that about Sean Penn as well.

Definitely Mystic River. It's haunting. It stays with you after you read it. The others do as well.

Yes, he is an excellent actor, but I just can't agree with him personally.
