feeling nostalgic about Chicago

Jan 19, 2010 14:30

Dear husband darted off to Chicago on business last night.  He said it took him an hour to get thru the security line at the Denver airport. They did not allow any liquid in the bottles larger than 3 oz, and other "suspicious" items including a few days supply of medication had to be put in a small plastic bag.  People were complaining, as they ( Read more... )

That's an awesome picture! Where is it?

My dear maman sent me an email with subject "со всеми праздниками". I was pleased with it at first - she didn't send me any congratulations for the New Year, and it's my birthday in a few days. On closer examination she was apparently congratulating me with the Orthodox Epiphany and my late grandfather's birthday, which both fall on the 13th of January. He died about 10 years ago. Indeed, life is very strange. :)

oh, it is this glass thing (glass egg) in Chicago, that I am totally obsessed with (it changes the way it looks depending on the weather, light, etc, etc). Chicago is a great place for modern and public art - e.g. they have sculptures of Picasso on the streets and a bunch of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings (which I am a total sucker for). Chicago is a new city (burnt down to the ground circa 1860), as a result, they have very few historical buildings left, so they started doing modern art, architecture, etc. Looks totally cool.

p.s. my parents don't do email and don't really call. Very old school :(

Very cool. I look forward to seeing it one day!

I wish my dad called or emailed me, but he is VERY technophobic. At least he has a phone lines these days, so I can call him myself. My mother's emails I can take or leave ;) They are usually so out of this world that I have to steel myself before reading.

I love how when you walk up to the egg thing at the correct angle you can see yourself upside down.
Totally relate on needing a Chi fix, but I think I'll wait for spring.

I did not know about this upside thing, thanks for telling me - I should try and see if I can find the correct angle. I just love the way the nearby buildings are reflected in the egg. What a great piece of art!

I am with you on getting the Chicago fix later when the weather warms up. Strangely, in terms of temperature, Denver and Chicago are not that much different, but once you add humidity, windchill and lack of sun to the mix, - brrrrr. :)

Can you tell me what are the must-see things/do in KC? hubby is heading there early next week. I think we saw the old fort once, but that's about it. Pls forgive the ignorance of St. Louis people. :)

I don't get it--the rules about only small amounts of liquids being allowed and them being required to be in ziploc bags has been in effect for years now. am i missing something?
