Kari could immediately tell the newcomer was cold. She'd seen it before; someone would try to suppress their shivers, often to try and avoid looking mortal for a few moments, or perhaps because there weren't enough blankets to go around, and one selfless soul wanted to avoid a younger, or weaker, or more injured selfsame from trying to hand over their own. It occurred to Kari she'd been lucky that the rabbits had generally been nice people, even if it did sometimes get them killed.

She didn't have anything to give the boy, but the fire had things covered. He was armed, which was fortunate; she didn't have a weapon to offer either. He also had a few last vestiges of melting snow in his hair, which implied he'd been outside. How curious.

She sat in a nearby armchair, smiling pleasantly down to the boy. "Snowing outside?"

He had improvised weaponry, surely they'd get along fine.

"Yeah, coming down pretty thick. Some jack-ass wanted to go outside and be a moron." He glanced at the girl under his arm, looking almost curious. "What are you a half-blood or something?" He'd never seen something like her before. Some weird animal-thing.

He was sometimes convinced this place had a twisted, sadistic sense of humor.

She poked at one of her ears with a finger. By now she was mostly used to being unusual in that regard; the really weird thing about it was that it meant no one here was even from the very planet she'd been on prior to coming here. It raised a whole host of questions she was making a point of ignoring.

"Well, no, if I was *half* fox I'd look really weird. But I've got the ears and tail, anyway. Did they make it outside? A lot of us in here are curious about it."

She was making a point of avoiding patronizing the kid. She doubted the boy (who had to be over twice her own age as a child) would appreciate it anymore than she did.

Besides, he certainly had the vocabulary of an adult...

"Yeah." He didn't elaborate, rubbing his hands in front of the fire.

"You have ears and a tail, you already look like a weirdo." He had seen a lot of things in his life, but a fox girl was a new thing.

"There's not much out there to see, you know. Just a lot of rocks and a lot of snow and cold. It's better in here. Wait till summer before you go poking around out there."
