There was still snow caught in his hair from being outside. He hadn't paused to discuss their re-entry with Dean. Instead he moved directly to the fireplace, crouching in front of the flames and warming his fingertips. His body was carefully angled, keeping his back to the locked door and his eyes on the three entries to the room.
The only thing ever lost to paranoia was your life if your guard slipped. He might be cold and shivering, but he wasn't stupid. He tried to keep his shivers to manageable shudders, not wanting anyone to realize he was cold. He had been out in the night's snow before, he had experience, and Dean hadn't seemed cold at all. So he shouldn't be cold either. Being cold meant that he was showing a weakness that someone might be able to exploit.
He hated being in the house when there were people in it, but he didn't really have an option at the moment, not until he warmed back up and could make his fingers work again.
His weapon had been set on the floor, leaned against his knee in easy reach. He would remain in front of the fire until he stopped shivering.
